Fly With The Wind - At the Bloomfield Science Museum in Jerusalem!

Autumn is here, and the Bloomfield Science Museum has lots of exciting new activities, all about wind. What is wind? Where does it go? The new activity center, inspired by the international MAKE movement, encourages curiosity and creativity. Our many exhibits, some old and some new, include a dramatic presentation of the power of wind and a construction workshop for the little ones. The Museum is also launching a fascinating three-dimensional exhibition of autumn photographs.

New exhibit:  PHOTAGE Autumn impressions

This exhibition by biologist and photographer Tami Rishona Ellison creates three dimensional visual impressions in two dimensional space. Each photage combines three separate pictures which our minds reassemble to provide an illusion of depth. The exhibition will be on view from October 27th to December 31st.

Activity center: Making wind

Our new activity center, Making wind, was planned and built in the spirit of the international MAKE movement. Specially designed environmental and innovative displays invite you to create structures from light materials, launch them, and make them hover and fly, utilizing wind power. Use the giant illustrated table (“The power to fly”) to work by yourself or in groups to build your creations. The challenge is to keep them in the air and see how high they can hover. There’s also a new and unusual device that launches paper planes. You’ll learn to fold and build models of paper planes. Watch them glide and attempt to launch them at stationary and moving targets.

Scientific demonstration: The power of wind

Can wind be seen? How are wind instruments played? Why does wind blow things away? All this and more in an entertaining demonstration with audience participation. Learn what you can do with two straws, how to blow smoke rings, and why the wind whistles.

Guided tour:

How does the wind turn umbrellas inside-out? How do birds fly? Why don’t airplanes fall out of the sky?

Building workshop: Shavshavruach

- Fun activity for parents and children. Build a weathervane, test it, and take it home as a souvenir.

There’s also lots more to see in the Museum: Games in Light and Shadow, Building in the Sand, Discovering Levers, Illusions – Mind Boggling, Amusement Park, In the Light of Electricity, The Blue Bricks, CAPTCHA, and much more.

All demonstrations, lessons and construction workshops – at no extra charge.

The Last Reef – 3D movie. Daily screenings of this amazing nature film. It’s a total experience for the whole family. You’re invited to float above tropical coral reefs, swim with whales, and join a school of millions of jellyfish. The film is narrated in Hebrew (English is possible as well upon request and audience presence). NIS 10 fee.

The Bloomfield Science Museum in Jerusalem invites you and your family to share in an interactive learning experience. Visit the displays, activate the exhibits. Share in scientific demonstrations. Experiment and build in our constructive workshops. All activities are suitable for adults and children aged 4 and up.
