Domino's (Beit Hakerem)

It's really not easy to being Israeli sometimes. The country is haunted by the specter of war, the government's endemic corruption leaves it constantly teetering on the brink of collapse and repeated elections, Jimmy Carter keeps popping up and wagging his finger, and as a final indignity, both of the American pizza chains to have established a foothold here aren't very good.

There is Pizza Hut, and there is Domino's – and inexplicably, it is Domino's that has conquered a significant chunk of the chain pizza market in Israel, with several locations around Jerusalem, including Mt. Scopus and the Talpiot industrial zone.

Unlike most other foreign chains, Domino's has chosen to disregard Jewish dietary law, meaning that Domino's is one of the few places in Jerusalem where you can get meat on your pizza. Besides that novelty, however, it's pretty standard pizza down the line – order a pie, choose two toppings ranging from black olives to Bulgarian cheese to corn, and maybe augment it with some bread sticks. Fun.
