Encore! Educational Theatre Company presents "the Pirates of Penzance," performed with Hebrew subtitles.
Stage director: Robert Binder / Musical director: Paul Salter / Choreographer: Arlene Chertoff
Description:
One of the most popular of all the G&S operas, "Pirates" sends up the Victorian strict code of duty above all while parodying the
chestnuts of 19th century grand opera. In typical humorous fashion, Gilbert pushes "duty" to its absurd extreme when the hero, Frederic, discovers that not only was he apprenticed - in error - to a piratical band, but that his apprenticeship will not end until his twenty-first birthday -- which, having been born in leap year on 29 February, will not be reached until some sixty-odd years hence. Pirates and policemen battle over the hands of virtuous Victorian maidens, but of course all comes right in time for an exuberant final curtain.
