The Nightingale of Baghdad: Yair Dalal in a tribute to Nazem al-Ghazali
Oud and violin player Yair Dalal presents a performance in tribute to one of the great Iraqi vocalists: Nazem al-Ghazali, whose songs are still sung throughout the Middle East. Al-Ghazali studied with the famous vocalist Muhammad al-Qubanchi. He joined the Baghdad Radio Orchestra, worked with legendary oud player Jamil Bashir, and his evocative voice and songs quickly captured the ears and hearts of admirers in Iraq and throughout the Arab world. al-Ghazali died suddenly in 1963, at the height of his career. This tribute hosts vocalists and musicians who were born in Baghdad and became acquainted with his songs at first hand, as well as vocalist Dudu Tasa.
