The Israel Festival and the Jerusalem Season of Culture join the world's capitals in bidding farewell to trailblazer Merce Cunningham, one of the greatest choreographers of the 20th century.
From June 9-11, the Israel Museum salutes this great artist and is proud to host five historic performances of events, specially adapted to the Israel Museum's galleries. These will be the very last museum performances in the history of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. The performances are unique, site-specific events, incorporating clips from the repertoire, live music, and parts of sets and costumes from different works.
When performed in a museum space, the atypical closeness between the dancers and the audience adds a dimension of intimacy, making everyone partners in a unique, once-in-a-lifetime event.
The events move around the museum, surprising the audience. The performances require walking and an extended period of standing.
Duration of the performance: 90 minutes, without intermission
The Jerusalem performances are a joint initiative of the Israel Museum, the Jerusalem Season of Culture, and the Israel Festival.
