A mishmash of Hebrew words that indicates loads of cultural offerings at little or no cost taking place on three weekends in Jerusalem, "Hamshushalaim" kicks off its sixth season in December 2010: December 2-4, 9-11, and 16-18, 2010.

This years events offer something for everyone, including hundreds of events at cultural venues and tourist destinations all over Jerusalem, dozens of outdoor and indoor shows, performances, street theatre, attractions, and special deals at restaurants and hotels.

Hamshushalayim 2010 at Tmol Shilshom:

Thursday, December 2 and 16, 2010, from 18:00-20:00: "Poetic Moments on Hanevi'im Street."

The evening will be divided into two parts:

Part one: Discussion at the Tmol Shilshom Cafe about the personality from the history of Hanevi'im Street: Rachel the poet, Yehuda Amichai, Harav Kook, Itamar Ben Avi, and others. Each of the speakers (Avishai Wall, Ariel Levinson, and Nir Amit of the new Jerusalem Secular Yeshiva) will speak about one personality.

Part two: Tour on Hanevi'im Street of places relating to the personalities discussed at the cafe: the house where Rachel lived, the Ben Yehuda family porch, the Rav Kook courtyard, and more. The tour will include poetry readings and excerpts from stories.

Thursday, December 9, 2010 from 18:00-20:00: "Alterman in Jerusalem"

Natan Alterman's poetry is seen as musical and much of his work has been set to music. This event will highlight two aspects of Alterman's work - the poetic and the musical. The first part of the evening will be dedicated to discussions, readings, and analyzations of Altermans work. The second part of the evening will be dedicated to singing Alterman poetry that has been set to music.
