The Feast of the Annunciation is observed by some churches in order to mark the revelation to Mary by the angel Gabriel that she would conceive and give birth to the Son of God.
Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Christians believe that the Annunciation took place in the desert of Nazareth.
The Annunciation is one of the twelve Great Feasts in the Christian calendar.
