The Biblical Zoo Celebrates its 20th Anniversary: All Earth's Critters

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo will host music, theatre, juggling workshops, and more, performed by Jerusalem artists. These events will take place on three consecutive Thursday afternoons during the Israel Festival. The zoo will also be promoting its extensive work in the field of nature preservation.
The shows will include Irish, jazz, dixie, world and Jewish music, animal fables by the Incubator theatre group, and performances by Machol Shalem. This program was made possible through support from the Jerusalem Foundation.
The events will take place on May 23, 30, and June 6 (Thursdays), between 16:30-19:30. Tickets are 40 NIS for children (3-18) and 50 NIS for adults, and include entrance to the zoo and all shows.

Orlando, a young man from a farm, travels to the duke's palace, hoping to participate in a dangerous wrestling match. Against all odds, he wins and captures the heart of the duke's niece, Rosalind. But Orlando's luck may have run out - Rosalind is banished from the palace. Together with her cousin, the princess Celia, she escapes to the forest. Their adventures are just beginning.
Shakespeare's comedy travels between the fancy palace and magical forest, between battles and games, between songs and games, before reachings a happy end.
The Mediatheque Theater and Beit Lessin have adapted this play for children and youth, keeping the four-hundred year old story fresh, young, and charming.

This is the story of a young girl named Shiraz, who is a servant to her mother and step-sister. One fall day, Shiraz sits on the window sill and begins knitting a sweater. Suddenly, a gust of wind swoops up the ball of yarn, and carries it to a house where an old, mysterious woman lives. Through her encounter with this woman, Shiraz learns about the importance of listening to your inner voice and secret wishes, in addition to what is heard and seen.
Many people have difficulty asking for help when they are in trouble. Shiraz's heart, perhaps like the hearts of many children who have read the book and will watch the play, found its way to the heart of the mysterious woman and others.
This story was written by Rita, known primarily as a singer. It has been transformed into a wonderful stage production, combining authentic music, colorful costumes, and a magical set. The soundtrack includes songs from her albums, most notably her Persian album, released last year.
