The 21st International Festival of Puppet Theater, initiated by the Train Theater in 1983 and held annually since 2001, will be held this summer at the Train Theater and other venues around Jerusalem from August 5-10.


The Festival selects performances based on variety, quality and relevance, and has hosted many artists known for their contribution to the field of puppetry and Visual Theater. Throughout the years, the Festival has become the prime source of creation and inspiration in the field of Puppet Theater in Israel.


Festival Program:

The Festival's program is mainly aimed at children and the whole family although it includes performances for adults as well. The 2012 festival program consists of approximately 38 different productions.

The Best of Israeli Creation:
Performances of the Train Theater's repertoire as well as other Israeli artists. "Pirate in the Bath" premiere, The Train Theater; "A Touch of Light" The Train Theater;"The Chelem Legend - Fool Moon" premiere, The Train Theater'; "The Way to There" premiere in Jerusalem, The Ruth Kanner Theater Group; "Tiny Theater" The Orna Porat Theater for Children and Youth; "Butterfly Kiss" The Mediatheque Holon; "Corderoy", premiere The Train Theater, and many others.


The program offers a panoramic window of the young original Israeli creation with "SABRA" every evening in the yard of The Khan Theater as a part of the festival, free of charge.
Pandora: a project with the students of the School of Visual Theater in Jerusalem as well as the students from the Israel Puppet Center in Holon.

This year the Festival will host shows from different countries:


Belgium: Compagnie Gare Centrale "Troubles"; Plansjet "Bal Populaire"


England: Storybox Theater "Punch & Judy"


France: Compagnie a "Ma Foi", "Chamber 26"


Spain: Xirriquituela Theater "Papirus"; La casa incierta "Fragile Breakfast"


Switzerland/ Israel: Amit Drori "Savanna"; Theatre L'Articule "Le Pop-up Cirkus"


Italy: Universi Sensibili "Tic tac tic tac"


Hungary: Mikropodium "Stop"


The Netherlands: Dudapaiva Company "Bastard"


An International Exposure Program for festival directors from all around the world will take place as part of the festival. Directors from the Czech Republic, Germany Scotland, England, Slovenia, Latvia, India and Denmark will be attending the festival.


Public Works:
Held in the neighbourhoods of Jerusalem, this project exposes the audience to a unique, fresh and surprising creation that still is in the production process. This year, the project is dedicated to graduates of The Greenhouse, who will represent their final work in the Nachlaot neigbhourhod in the city center of Jerusalem.

The shows and events will be held at the Train Theater, and other locations around Jerusalem.
