Celebrate Independence Day at the Tower of David Museum!
On the eve of Independence Day in Jerusalem we will read the Declaration of Independence with philosophers and scholars and then rock the night away with the Giraffes band. The Secular Yeshiva in Jerusalem, Bina and the Tower of David Museum are establishing a young and innovative tradition for Independence Day: studying the Declaration of Independence and then joining in film screenings, discussions, theater, study, a campfire, a concert and a party until dawn.
This unique happening will be held to mark the beginning of Independence Day this year at the Tower of David Museum in Jerusalem. It is the first event of its kind to combine a celebration of independence with religious and secular ceremonies and to mix intellectuals and politicians with artists, journalists and musicians. We expect hundreds of participants for "Night Time Knockout" ("Patishim B'Layla") which includes varied and different activities and climaxes with a fantastic performance by the band, "The Giraffes".
The event will begin with a Havdalah ceremony to mark the transition from Memorial Day to Independence. It will be led by teachers from the Secular Yeshiva who will also lead a discussion on the meaning of the Declaration of Independence. The crowd will then disperse to different areas of the Tower of David complex (see details below) for special activities. At 23:00 there will be a performance by the "Giraffes" and then we will rock until the early morning hours with DJ Gal Kadan.
Among those leading the breakout sessions are Jackie Levy, Dov Elbaum, Neri Livneh, Tomer Frasico, Dr. Ruhama Weiss, David Menachem, Sharon Majewski, Yonatan Kunda and Neta Weiner, and Ortal Ben - Dayan. The singer Shira Z. Caramel will host young Jerusalem musicians in new renditions of traditional Israeli folk songs. Other groups will tell stories around the "campfire" and there will be more activities as well.
The singer, Shira Z Carmel, will host young Jerusalem musicians in performances in new renditions of traditional "Land of Israel" folk songs, as well as the "Story of Israel" group who will perform songs and stories around the campfire.
At 23:00, the band "The Giraffes" will perform and afterwards there will be a party in the courtyard with DJ Gal Kadan (Laissez Passer, Balkadan) until the early hours of the morning.
