Beit Avi Chai presents "Alter-What? A Century of Alterman": Three events focusing on Natan Alterman to mark the hundredth anniversary of his birth.

1. From Russia with Love - Russian poetry and Alterman's works

• Sunday, August 1, 8 PM

A rich, interdisciplinary evening about the poets Alexander Blok and Boris Pasternak, their influence on Alterman, and the impact of the poets of the Russian Silver Age on Hebrew poetry in general

With: Miri Litvak, author and translator
Hamutal Bar-Yosef, poet, translator, and scholar of literature

The evening will also feature readings of works in the original and in translation and poems set to music in Russian and Hebrew, performed by Katia Chepelev, with accompaniment by Tatiana Potapeiko.

The event will take place in P7.

2. Black on Newsprint - Alterman the publicist

• Monday, August 2, 8:30 PM

Natan Alterman's journalistic writings are a fascinating source for understanding Israeli history and give us a glimpse of his personality as a public figure and an intellectual.
Conversations and poems that convey some of the emotional connection between the writer and his nation.

Meir Ouziel on the challenge of being a columnist
Roni and Naftali Alter with old and new tunes for Alterman's poems

3. Alter-Man - An interdisciplinary evening inspired by Alterman's writings

• Tuesday, August 3, 8 PM

Alterman came up with linguistic innovations and was constantly challenging the language. His multifaceted writing used language as a fascinating tool for art and creativity.
A collection of short performances by actors, musicians, poets, dancers, and video artists who draw their inspiration from the writings of Alterman and conduct a dialogue with them. Together they create a colorful mosaic and give us a new perspective on the poet.
A fascinating encounter between part of the Israeli canon and "alternative" art.

Among the participants: Ilan Green, Shai Dotan, Nocham Baitner and the Tarantula Dance Group, Hadas Ofrat, Nadav Vikinski, Keren Koch and Barak Elnekave, Neta Rutenberg, Fyodor Makarov, Natan Slor, Osnat Zibil, and Jasmin Even

In conjunction with the HaZira Performance Art Arena

The event will take place in the BEIT AVI CHAI courtyard; seating is on mats.
