Israel Tours: realizing the Bible and History
There’s no shortage of tourist destinations throughout the world, but there’s only one place on earth where you can visit a land that is strongly connected to three of the world’s largest monotheistic religions.
From the Sea of Galilee in the north to the Old City of Jerusalem in center, from the lowest depths on the planet at the Dead Sea to the modern cosmopolitan metropolis of Tel Aviv - wherever your interests are may be, there is an Israel tour to match it. GoJerusalem offers a wide array of Israel tours - half day, full day, 2 day tours, walking tours and even private tours of Israel.
Here’s just a sample of the historical and religious sites you can see on GoJerusalem’s various tours of Israel.
Israel Tours: visiting Israel’s north
Suitable for tourists of all religions, a tour of the Galilee features a visit to the Beit She’an National Park, one of Israel’s most amazing archaeological sites, where you can walk through ancient ruins from Biblical through Byzantine times. A tour to the Galilee would not be complete without a visit to the Sea of Galilee, and the surrounding churches where, according to Christian belief, Jesus performed many miracles. Another highlight of a tour to the north is a visit to the ancient city of Tzfat, the place where Jewish mysticism was born. And, of course, a visit to the Golan Heights, where some of Israel’s most important battles took place and where some of Israel’s most breathtaking vistas are on offer.
Nazareth: the birthplace of Christianity
In Nazareth, experience the juxtaposition of modern Middle Eastern culture, archaeological wonders and Christian history. The Church of Annunciation, built on-site, where according to Roman Catholic tradition, the archangel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would become the mother of Jesus, is one of Nazareth’s most popular sites for Catholic pilgrims. Nazareth is home to many other holy sites such Mary’s Well and the Church of St. Joseph.
The market of Nazareth’s Old City is also a popular destination for its spice shops, intricate fabrics on display and top-notch Middle Eastern street food.
The Dead Sea: the lowest place on Earth
Everything you’ve heard about the Dead Sea is true. It’s the lowest point on Earth and yes, the water really is that salty. So salty, in fact, that you’ll easily float on it’s surface. A tour of the area should always not only include a swim in the sea but a slathering of the mineral-rich Dead Sea mud all over your body. Many beaches offer bins of the mud by the sea side, while visits to the Dead Sea area’s various spas means many opportunities for pampering treatments, both with and without mud.
EcoTourism: the latest tourism trend
Israel tours are no longer exclusively cultural and religious experiences. The EcoTourism trend has arrive in Israel, and companies such as EcoBike offer bike tours of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, a unique way of touring Israel without having to board a bus.
