Beit Shmuel presents "Stony Ground": a photography exhibit showcasing the works of photographer Ariel Levanon.
October 4-November 11, 2013
The exhibit focuses on the fleeting nature of most things and the human reaction to that. Included in the exhibit are photographs of the process of decay of landscapes and sites in Italy, Ireland and Israel. These processes are evident in places such as the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland, where rain and wind exposed rocky foundations, on a calcified stone sculpture full of holes located in a public park, or in a photo of a stone that collapsed in the Beit Shean antiquities. The series of photographs is sometimes accompanied by a feeling of lifelessness, as is the case in photos of empty, exposed beach shores, or photos of a rock formation in a volcano which is reminiscent of a pair of lovers whose lives were suddenly frozen.
