Beit Shmuel presents the Gulha Ensemble in an evening featuring songs of freedom, protest, love, and yearning for the old Persian culture.

Saturday night, June 15, 2013 at 21:30

Classical and folk music from Persia, some of which was written before the Islamic conquest. The ensemble presents instrumental segments, vocal pieces, and readings of poetry by respected Persian poets. The audience will be exposed to the sounds, rhythms, and rhymes unique to Persian music, which manage to captivate even the ears of those not familiar with the unique sound. The music tells the story of the Persian nation, of the human puzzle of which it is constructed, and of Persian culture in general.

Sintour: Menashe Sasson, Vocals and poetry reading: Farenza Cohen, Dumbek: Moshe Hagigi, flute: Yaakov Meron, Violin: Nir Sarousi, Oud: Marina Tusitz, Guest star: Vocalist Eliran.
