Elements of Life: A New Exhibit at Beit Shmuel

Julie Halotsoba and Polly Susa, two Slovakian artists, present a debut joint exhibition in Beit Shmuel, comprised of works that they created in recent years.

Susa's work deals with personal issues such as happiness, self-destruction, alcohol abuse, and internal struggles, alongside social issues such as hunger, globalization, and environmental damage.

In the exhibit, Halotsoba presents three series of miniatures. In the first series, "Doll," she presents pigs holding or decorated with valuables. The animals are displayed on a golden background, reminiscent of Byzantine era paintings of saints, which creates a sense of irony and critique of glorification of physical belongings, arrogance, and human behavior. In the second series, "The Four Elements," she presents the four elements of earth, air, water, and fire in a symbolic manner, wherein the viewer is meant to identify which element each painting represents. The third series, "Autumn,", doesn't deal with symbols, as the previous ones did, and the technique is free, emotional, and tempermental. Here, the artist focuses on landscape and specifically, plant life.

Curator: Devorah Goldberger

The exhibit is open to the public in the lobby of the Hirsch Theater of Beit Shmuel.

Opening hours: 10:00-20:00, every day of the week.
