Mid-Sha’ban is the fifteenth of the month of Shaban, a month in which the deeds of every Muslim ascend to God.
Sunni Muslims believe that on the night of Mid-Sha’ban, God determines the destinies of all people in the coming year. Thus Mid-Sha’ban is a night of prayer for forgiveness of past misdeeds.
Shia Muslims believe that the day of Mid-Sha’ban is the birth date of Mohammed al-Mahdi, the twelfth Shia Imam and the Mahdi, the prophesied redeemer in Islam.
