On Hoshanah Rabbah ("the great supplication"), the last day of Sukkot, the judgment that was written and sealed on Yom Kippur is made permanent. It is also the holiday in which the fate of the world’s agriculture and rainfall is decided. Worshipers make seven circuits around the synagogue with the lulav and etrog, the symbolic plants of Sukkot, while reciting the Hoshana prayers for deliverance.
