The Confederation House presents "Sands" - Mark Eliyahu Ensemble
Mark Eliyahu-composer and kamanja and saz player-and his father, composer and tar player Piris Eliyahu, are among the outstanding figures of the world music scene in Israel. Through the years they have created numerous performances in Israel and abroad, and have recorded numerous albums with such well-known musicians as Berry Sakharof, Ilana Elia, Rita, Omri Mor and Idan Raichel.
The performance "Sands" presents new original compositions by Mark and Piris from their latest album alongside beloved old works. These are based upon ancient musical roots in Central Asia, Iran and the Middle East, with the addition of western harmonies. This combination makes the works accessible and enables them to cross cultural boundaries. Included are new melodies to traditional Hebrew piyyutim. The result is an original new Israeli work incorporating a variety of ethnic elements.
Mark Eliyahu, kamanja, saz, composition and musical direction; Piris Eliyahu, tar and composition; Alon Amano Campino, guitar, oud, harmonic arrangement and vocals; Erez Munk, percussion; Rani Lorentz, bass
