Jazz in the Submarine: Tuesday night free Jazz at the Yellow Submarine hosts "The Alligators" - a hard bop ensemble in the traditional spirit of the masters of this genre such as Art Blakey, Wine Shorter, Kurtis Polar and Herbi Hancock. The ensemble plays mainly original compositions inspired by the genre. All of the pieces they play are fitted musically to the unique instruments and the musicians that play them. The ensemble is comprised mainly of wind instruments (tenor saxophone, recorder, and trombone) which provide the expressionism typical of the genre and period of the 50s and 60s, and are minimally accompanied by drums and bass. In addition to their original materials, they also play some covers of famous pieces in this genre.
