The Israel Museum presents "The Wood Menagerie": Works by Rudi Lehmann.
November 22, 2011-March 15, 2012
Location: Ticho House
Artist: Rudi Lehmann
Media: Woodcuts and wood sculptures
German-born Rudi Lehmann (1908-1977) was a sculptor and printmaker. His numerous woodcuts and sculptures, most of which represent animals, manage to convey the essence of their subject in a distilled, tender, naive and human way. Though he never achieved wide recognition, Lehmann influenced generations of artists, and his remarkable sculptures make him one of the most important Israeli sculptors of his time. On view here are wood sculptures and woodcuts created mainly during the 1950s and 1960s.
