2011 has been declared the International Year of Chemistry, marking 100 years since Marie Curie won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of radium.
Marie Curie was the first female Nobel prize winner, a pioneer, trailblazer and role model for women scientists around the world. In recognition of Marie Curie's achievements, Bloomfield Science Museum presents the diversity of chemistry: materials, colors, surfaces, textures, processes, and more. That's chemistry!
The wonder of chemistry: Scientific demonstrations for the whole family
-Create juice drinks in all the colors of the rainbow
-Toothpaste for elephants
-Growing a forest with chemicals
-Water desalination demonstration
Magic Potion: An active workshop for children.
Concoct a magic potion that changes the color of lemon, vinegar, soap and other materials
"Icky Sticky": Building Workshop
Each child makes him/herself a colored "icky sticky and takes home a souvenir.
Where's the chemistry? Guided tours of museum exhibitions.
At the electricity exhibit, make electricity with your own hands and see how different gases change the color of light. At the media exhibit, discover how the silicon and glass in electronic devices enable the transmission of data across the world.
Dr. Molecule: The characteristics of water.
Humorous interactive science theatre with Dr. Molecule about the characteristics of water. Dr. Molecule lights a fire underwater, tries to burn a balloon filled with water, creates a "water bomb", and many other surprising phenomena.
*The Dr. Molecule show costs an extra 15 NIS.*
