About

Influenced by the culinary bounty of the Levant, and influenced by the growing worldwide demand for fresh and local food, Israeli chefs have been synthesizing a unique fusion of Middle Eastern ingredients with a southern European approach, creating in the process something which can increasingly be called modern Israeli cuisine. HaChatzer epitomizes this exciting contemporary approach to Israeli cuisine, directed by the creative vision of chef Moti Ohana - a graduate of the prestigious Cordon Bleu cooking academy and a veteran of Jerusalem restaurants Chakra and Etzel Pini BaChatzer.

HaChatzer emphasizes the freshest of ingredients, local flavors and especially high quality meat dishes - a carnivore's paradise for the conscious locavore. Yet the rotating seasonal menu casts its gaze internationally as well - dishes like eggplant in tehina and Moroccan-style mezze platters coexist alongside veal sweetbreads and South American-style beef. An expansive wine list featuring top wines from Israel's mainstream and boutique wineries ensures that oenophiles will be satisifed as well.

Located in the increasingly swinging Old Train Station area, the restaurant is warm and homey, exuding old-world Jerusalem charm - with two levels of seating, a bar and an open kitchen which allows guests to watch the cooks at work. A spacious garden holds up to 300 guests for special events (the interior of the restaurant can also be booked for afternoon events). On Friday afternoons, HaChatzer offers a special Kabbalat Shabbat menu, a delicious lunch based on the salads and mezze that make up the Mediterranean table.
