If you can hear us over all the vuvuzelas, we’re here to tell you that Jerusalem’s summer of fun is rolling on. From World Cup-inspired events, to cultural attractions at venues that wouldn’t recognize a soccer ball if it hit them in the face, there’s plenty to do in town this week. So follow our advice and make your goal checking out some of these great events all week long.
- What could be cooler than a show based on the text that legend has it was key in creating the greatest Jewish monster ever, the Golem (and the creation of the world)? Peretz Eliyahu (pictured) will do it all, and then some, at the Confederation House on Thursday.
- Get some good deals and interesting art at the newly resurrected Bezalel Art Fair on Friday, appropriately enough, on Bezalel Street.
- The Carpathian Mountains, bordering pretty much every Eastern European Country, was home to a wealth of Jewish communities before World War II. Going back won’t revive Jewish life there, but you can get a taste of the mountain music here Saturday, at the Ein Kerem music center.
- On Sunday, take a journey some number of leagues under the sea at Bloomfield Science Museum, which presents a new exhibit The Deep.
- All the single babies will have a ball at Malcha Mall on Monday at their Baby Festival. Don’t forget the diapers.
- The kumzitz is basically a Jewish kumbaya session, with guitars and the whole shebang. Make it into a Matzah Ball-style singles evening, though, and you have Kumzitz with a Twist at Reshimu Tuesday night.
- Two of Israel’s greatest poets, Noami Shemer and Rachel, will be paid tribute to on Wednesday with a show at the Yellow Submarine. The word “sublime” doesn’t begin to describe the kind of night it ought to be.
That’s not all. We’ve got more events than Jerusalem has bandwagon soccer fans at our full events section here.
