Don’t listen to the fools who tell you nothing is going on this week. No matter if one’s in the transitions of fall or the middle of holiday season, Jerusalem’s weeks are always jam packed with lots to do. And if those fools need proof, well you just show them the below recommendations.
- On Thursday, one of Jerusalem’s most storied and beloved institutions makes its grand re-entrance to the nightlife scene. Mike’s Place, beloved by English-speaking Jerusalemites, sports fans and rock lovers alike will hosts grand reopening celebration tonight. Might old-school Jerusalem bars like Godfather, Cannabis, the Tea House and the Tavern be returning too some day soon?
- What could be more dramatic than a laid-off clown on a soul-searching sojourn? Two laid-off clowns embarking together on a soul-searching sojourn. HaMa’abada realizes this fact and is staging the semi-autobiographical musical Clowns in Search of Meaning on Friday.
- On Saturday night, another Israeli institution returns, if only for one night. The music and stories of Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach are revisited at the massive annual memorial concert at the International Convention Center, featuring top talent of the post-Shlomo musical world.
- On Sunday, check out a collection of eclectic embroideries at the Islamic Art Museum, thanks to a new exhibit about weaving and its place in the lifestyles of the Ottoman Empire.
- On Monday, you can hear some fine music, and hear plenty of talk about it too, as the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra presents its free weekly Etnachta music series at the Jerusalem Theatre.
- On Tuesday, head to Beit Avi Chai for Bar Ilan Professor Hananel Mack’s third in a series of lectures about the forgotten apocryphal books of the Second Temple Period, which include Septuagint and lost appendices to the books of Esther and Daniel (in Hebrew). It’s information you won’t soon forget.
- Wednesday is as good a day as any to see what’s happening at the Jerusalem Artists House’s fall offerings. The venue us always on the cutting edge of the city’s arts scene, and current shows include the works of primal painter Elad Rosen and the circular canvases of Yonat Ofer-Ziz.
And if the fools are still not convinced, here’s our full event section, with even more listings of everything going on.
