We know you’re super busy taking care of all the things you put off until after the holidays – or, if you are in university, starting school. All the more reason to make sure you take a little “me” time and explore what Jerusalem has to offer this week.
- Tonight, local boys done good Hadag Nachash once again play their hometown with a show at Hama’abada, to celebrate the end of the production process on a new album.
- On Friday, one of Jerusalem’s most awaited festivals kicks off. Houses from Within lets regular shmoes see the lifestyles of the artsy and famous with peeks inside some of the most famous Jerusalem landmarks and homes.
- The Hebrew month of Cheshvan is known as “bitter” in Jewish tradition because of it’s lack of holidays (as if we could stomach any more at this point). But the new moon holds plenty of significance regardless. Kick off the new month at Beit Avi Saturday night with a talk/singalong to celebrate another 30 day cycle.
- You don’t need to go all the way to Munich to get your Oktoberfest on. Jerusalem bar Tuvya (pictured) is hosting a beer fest of its own, modeled after the German celebration for the first two weeks of the month. Tapas-style tasting platters, sausages special offers on multiple beer purchases are all on tap.
- David Ben-Gurion famously planned to make the arid Negev region bloom. How appropriate, then, for the Jerusalem Theatre to offer a lecture and screening night themed around Desert Flower on Monday night? An autobriographical work about Somali celebrity and activist Waris Dirie, it’s not actually about a desert flower at all, but that’s okay.
- On Tuesday, the Psik Theater puts on Aadal’s Days, a contemplation of mental illness in Israel.
- On Wednesday, check out the exhibit of sculptures based on fairytales and legends at the Alrov Mamilla outdoor shopping mall.
