Jerusalem’s top events for the week of September 10th

With the Jewish New Year and its High Holy Days fast approaching, Jerusalem’s getting in an especially repentant spirit. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty going on for those who aren’t getting up at the crack of dawn to pray for forgiveness – and even some stuff for those who are getting up as well. Oh and if you do fall into the latter group, could you put in a good word for us with the Big Guy upstairs?

  • Though the summer has passed us by, Thursday night remains chock full of concerts for the paying public and moochers alike. For those who “accidentally” left their wallets at home, Shimon Parnas will play a free live show at the Alrov-Mamilla Mall. But if you’ve got the cash lying around, Ehud Banai at the Jerusalem Theater is a pretty good bet, too
  • Or, if you’re the type of person that likes everyone to know what you are doing right now, live tweeting from the twitter twestival at the Bloomfield Science Museum might be right up your newsfeed.
  • Friday is the perfect time to get some shopping done and Malcha Mall has you in mind with the New Year’s Festival from Sept 10-18. You’ll have a chance to win a prize basket and get to check out all the vibrant home wares items for sale.
  • It may not be Saturday Night Live (or even the Israeli equivlent, A Wonderful Country) but Adir Miller still puts on a pretty funny show, and he’ll be at the Jerusalem Theater Saturday night. In Hebrew.
  • On Sunday start the last week of the year in a jolly mood by watching The Bachelorette’s Mother, a play that has a happy ending(!). What will they think of next?
  • How about a shmorgasbord of everything? Monday will be a great time to check out Autumn Nights in the Old City, a hodgepodge of tours, culinarium, shows and other fun stuff all within those Old Ottoman walls.
  • On Tuesday, let the prayers of the season wash over you with a show by the Al Palgei Mayim ensemble, which puts a new twist on some old psalms at Beit Avi Chai.
  • Round out the week with a visit to the Kahn Theater for the Israeli debut of “Le Grande Magic” in Hebrew. All about the infidelity and faith, it will leave you with something to think about as we enter a brave new year.

You didn’t think that was all did you? We’ve got enough listings in our events section to keep you out and about until next year. You heard us right.
