Jerusalem has been called a lot of things in its 3,000 year history, but boring has probably been not one of them, at least not for the last few years. That’s because a multitude of cultural and nightlife offerings keep everything running smoothly. Here’s our list of the best stuff going on this week.
- It’s been said that growing up is hard to do. So why bother? Make like Peter Pan and hold on to your childhood with a production of the classic story of the magical boy from Neverland at the Jerusalem Theater tonight.
- Friday mornings have been heady times lately in the Old City. But why quibble when peace is oh so close, in fact right around the corner at the Tower of David. Oud maestro Yair Dalal joins flautist Osama Abu Ali for a concert and tour there Friday at 11:00.
- The movie “Amadeus” was adapted from a groundbreaking play that took the stuffy baroque-era tale of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and made it palpable to the average Joe. Now back on stage, the story of the world’s greatest composer comes to the Jerusalem Theater Saturday night.
- A lot of corporate jargon speak gets thrown around, but rarely does it have anything to do with art. Not so with Synergy, a new exhibition at Hebrew University’s Givat Ram campus from artists Ann Rakover, Gila Robinson, Datia Landau, Yitzhak Shalhevet and Sasson Tiram. Check it out Sunday.
- On Monday get a little Eastern European with the Yiddishpiel Theater at the Jerusalem Theater.
- We know, we know, you’re craving some good old-fashioned santur music. Well your luck, as Eldad Levy (pictured), whose spiritual music harnesses the instrument, visits the Hama’abada Tuesday night.
- Ramat Rachel, the kibbutz on the edge of Jerusalem that seems to defy the bustling city with its laid back atmosphere, has been a favorite spot for those visiting the city and veteran Jerusalemites alike. On Wednesday find out what the ancients thought of the site as the Bible Lands Museum presents a lecture on excavations there with Dr. Yuval Gadot.
