Jerusalem’s top events for the week of November 1st

As winter in Jerusalem makes a slow, hesitant approach, the city has
food on the mind with a cornucopia of food-themed events on the menu
over the days ahead. Toast dragons and knights with an ancient wooden
goblet filled to the brim at the Knights Festival, explore the cultural-social aspects of food at Kolben Dance’s Jerusalem debut of “Truffles,” eat your way through Jerusalem of the Second Temple Period
with Beit Avi Chai’s tour – these events are but a small taste of the
feast of culinary-minded happenings around town this week.

  • The Old City Knights Festival
enters its third week tonight, once again transforming the
picturesque alleyways of the Old City into a scene from the middle ages.
Step back through time and witness knights in battle, fire spitting
dragons, spectacular costumes, fire performances and a knights’ feast,
raising your goblet to days of yore.

  • Through dance and theatre, Kolben Dance’s new performance “Truffles”
explores our love-hate relationship with food and meals: food as prey,
food in relation to body image, frustration, and desire. “Truffles,”
which deals mainly with the social-cultural aspect of food and not the
physical, debuts in Jerusalem at the Jerusalem Theatre tonight.

  • Beit Avi Chai and Yad Ben Zvi’s “Jerusalem in the Second Temple Period” tour
on Friday will take you down through the layers of time to Jerusalem of
the Second Temple Period, as uncovered by archaeologists and scholars.
Hear about holiday and weekday foods, get to know the dining customs of
that time, and, of course, taste it for yourselves. (In Hebrew.)

  • Eight artists, members of a paper-cutting group, initiated “The Song of Songs and Other Songs”: a group exhibit at Beit Shmuel
featuring unique avant garde paper-cuts which break free from
previously agreed upon design constraints. The exhibit will focus on
themes connected to Jewish sources, with a special focus on themes from
    The Song of Songs.

  • Experience a unique and luxurious dining experience at Racha,
the authentic Georgian style restaurant in the City Center, now for
lunch as well. The restaurant, which recently celebrated its first
anniversary, is now extending its opening hours due to popular demand to be open daily on weekdays for lunch as well, daily from 12:00.

  • Chef Bruno Oliva brings a new menu to Khanale’h, the Khan Theater’s in house caf
