Jerusalem’s top events for the week of March 10th

We’re now transitioning between the kiddie activity overload of A Children’s Winter festival and the springtime revelry of Purim, but plenty of fun things are happening all over town this week, from a black-tie-only fundraiser gala dinner to ice skating at City Hall (you heard right) to a Grease revival.
  • Classy balls are certainly not a thing of the past, at least in the Jewish world (especially if you consider the ubiquitous singles Matzoh Ball classy). On Thursday, Hadassah throws its own ball for young professionals, a black-tie event aimed at raising money for the hospital’s pediatric department. Whether you’re a debutante, or just like helping kids, the Inbal Hotel is the place to be Thursday night.
  • On Friday, the Children’s Winter festival continues its second and final weekend of 2011, with events at the Bloomfield Science Museum, the Israel Museum and more.
  • There’s still a week until the revelry of Purim and a month until the wine-stravaganza known as Passover, but Moroccan restaurant Darna is getting diners in the mood with a free glass of Cava to go along with any order of their Darna special.
  • Speaking of Purim, the dress-up holiday which places an emphasis on the prominence of women will certainly be on the minds of many who go to see Em Kol Chai, an award-winning tribute to the women of the Bible through masks, pantomime, video, music and more. The show comes to Beit Avi Chai Sunday night, followed by a discussion on the subject.
  • On Monday, Jerusalem turns into a winter wonderland, just in time for spring. For one month, Safra Square plays host to a Rockefeller Center-esque ice skating rink, with live music, a shopping area and a coffee shop to warm up after all that time on the ice.
  • Et tu, Jerusalem? On the Ides of March, Grease is once again the word, and the play. The Center Stage Theater troupe and the Encore Educational Theatre Company (pictured) debuts the show at Arnona’s Beit Sefer Masorti on Tuesday.
  • Noted South African animator William Kentridge recently visited Jerusalem on the occasion of his work being exhibited at the Israel Museum. Now it is your chance to see the drawings as they visit a few cities around the world before making their home at New York’s MoMA.

And that’s hardly everything – you can see what else is going on this week at our full events section, here.
