The good times of Jerusalem Day are only a memory, and yet the city keeps on rocking. With summer fast approaching, the big-name cultural events are beginning to come hot and heavy (like the weather). Here’s a look at some of the good stuff going down in Jerusalem this week.
- Nothing says love like a good old-fashioned roast, so what better way to pay homage to the Holy City than to poke fun of it? Check out the Psik Theater’s production of The Jerusalem Comedy, highlighting the city and all its foibles, tonight.
- On Friday, catch the first of two shows aimed specially at kids at Hama’abada (The Lab), about clowns looking to get out of the funny car and find a new direction in life.
- On Saturday night pop rocker Hemi Rudner visits Beit Avi Chai, for a special kibbutz-themed show, in honor of the upcoming hrvest-themed holiday of Shavuot.
- On Sunday, pianist Esterit Baltzan visits the Jerusalem Theatre to tickle the ivories there.
- HaCasetta’s not only a cool bar, but an art gallery, too. Head down there Monday to see the works of Dan Grace Windsor, and grab yourself a brewski while you’re at it.
- Tuesday night brings us to Shavuot, which is traditionall linked with the giving of the Torah. Many Jews, religious or not, devote part of the night to study and in Jerusalem there will be a number of options. But if you’d rather study good music, Asaf Avidan and the Mojos (pictured) have picked Tuesday night to visit the Yellow Submarine.
- Or if Avidan’s music is too “normal” for you, wait till Wednesday night to hit up the Yellow Submarine for experimental post-pop, funk and everything else band Xiu Xiu, visiting from California.
