The Machine Inside: Biomechanics exhibit at the Bloomfield Science Museum

9th July -18th October 2014

How does a giraffe’s heart function? Why is the cheetah the fastest animal in the world? Why does a fish have scales? How can birds fly so high?

Coming to us directly from the Field Natural Museum in Chicago, this exciting traveling exhibition will begin its world tour this summer at the Bloomfield Science Museum in Jerusalem.

Biomechanics studies the structure and function of living creatures as machines that have evolved over time.

By way of familiar landscapes the exhibit takes the viewer deep into the incredible workings of nature. This is a story of survival, of being prepared, of appreciating that Nature is the greatest innovator on earth.

You are invited to observe, compare, role play, investigate, and discover. Your interactive experience with the dozens of exhibits on display will change the way you see the world, leaving you awed and amazed by Nature.

The exhibition, covering an area of over 500 sqm, will be displayed in a special tent built for this purpose next to the Museum. It includes a life-sized giraffe, digital exhibits, video clips, stuffed animals and more. Join a guided tour with free time on your own to explore the exhibit, take time to enjoy the scientific demonstrations join a building workshop in which you are welcome to build a small scientific model, try it and take it home as a souvenir!

The Race to the Ark

The rains are starting, the waters are rising and the flood is coming. This is the setting of a popular reality TV show. To secure their berth on the Ark, two teenagers find themselves in a competition against Nature's finest athletes. They have to outrun a cheetah, outjump a kangaroo and hold their balance against their flamingo competitors. They find themselves in a contest with the Animal Kingdom's best rollers, craziest acrobats and greatest contortionists.

Part reality TV, part Bible story and part nature documentary, this high energy, fun-filled dance work takes us on a journey of two courageous boys into the inspiring world of biomechanics- the extraordinary ways in which animals (and humans) have adapted to survive and thrive.

Told through contemporary dance, theatre and animation this story will thrill young audiences and adults alike.

Duration of show: 30 minutes.

Cost: NIS 20 (all age  must obtain a ticket to the show.  Entrance ticket to the Museum is mandatory)

The show is suitable to age 4 and up.
