Beit Shmuel presents "Wing Clapping": a new exhibit displaying works by Chana Krumer.

Chana Krumer, an artist who gives visual interpretations to the Jewish sources in many of her works does so in her exhibit "Wing Clapping" as well. In a series of fabrics painted with textile colors and acrylics, Krumer relates to liturgical word combinations, such as "Leah's eyes," "seeing the voices," or "I am my prayer." Alongside this series, which was created in the past few years and stands at the heart of the exhibit, there is also an earlier series from the 1990s which includes pencil and colored chalk sketches with a nature theme. Even though these are two different series, from seeing both together the viewer can see the importance of movement in the artist's work and the connection between heaven and earth in her work.

Krumer, a Jerusalem resident, was born to Holocaust survivor parents, grew up in Kansas City, MO in the United States and moved to Israel in 1972. She studied literature for her first degree at the University of Saint Louis and Education for her graduate degree in Boston College. She also took courses at Pratt Institute in New York and at Bezalel in Jerusalem and the Art College in Philadelphia. Besides her artistic ventures, which include Judaica, Krumer also worked as a teacher of art for many years in high school and college. Today she teaches courses and workshops on the fusion of visual art and Jewish sources.
