Sara (Susan) Avitzour discusses her memoir And Twice the Marrow of Her Bones

Ten years ago, Avitzour lost her eighteen-year-old daughter Timora to leukemia. Using narrative, a journal, and Timora's poetry, Avitzour draws the reader into her family's world during the "long, wrong years" of her daughter's illness, and into her own emotional, intellectual, and spiritual journey in their aftermath. The book addresses topics that range from food to fun to forgiveness, from pain to purpose to prayer - and ultimately to the challenge of affirming faith and love in an unpredictable, and often cruel, universe.

Dr. Micah Goodman will discuss his new book The Secrets of The Guide to the Perplexed

Facilitator: Inbar Amir

Maimonides believed that there is a secret, an unknown and inaccessible body of knowledge, the revelation of which is the purpose of life. He believed that his historic role was to uncover this knowledge and pass it on while preserving its secrecy. In the prologue to the Guide to the Perplexed Maimonides calls on his readers to swear that they will refrain from sharing the book's secrets with others. This oath has been broken time and again by wisdom-seekers in every generation, and this book joins this longstanding tradition.

Dr. Micah Goodman is director of Ein Prat - The Academy for Leadership in Alon and a lecturer of Jewish thought at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
