A bar on downtown's booze-deluged Rivlin St. drag that doesn't cater to crowds of Israeli high-schoolers and high-decibel packs of Anglo students? Once again, the exception tests the rule. Bellwood Bar attempts, among several like-minded downtown bars, to bring the spirit of UK public houses - or at least the now-trendy gastropubs - to the far shores of the Mediterranean. Sturdy wood construction abounds, making the place seem more venerable than it is; along with the serious decor goes a serious beer list, including several import heavyweights on tap and dozens more by the bottle, along with a diverse liquor selection. Food is of central importance, naturally - expect proper fish and chips and, in a concession to that certain other large English-speaking country, plenty of tasty burgers.
