See Israel's military cemetery - Mt. Herzl - where many famous war heroes are buried

The ancient capital of the Jewish people reveals its history and holiness during this daylong tour of sites of Jewish interest in Jerusalem.

You'll start the day with a magnificent overview of Jerusalem old and new, and the Judean Desert beyond, from Mount Scopus, home to the Hebrew University campus.

You'll then descend towards the Old City, pausing first to visit the purported tomb of King David on Mount Zion outside the city walls. Inside the Old City, you'll walk along the Cardo, the venerable main street of Roman Jerusalem. Nearby, you'll view the impressive remnants of Hezekiah's Wall, built by the Jewish king to protect the city from marauding Assyrians and mentioned in the Book of Isaiah.

Continuing through the Jewish Quarter, you'll take in the four Sephardic Synagogues, the center of Jewish Quarter religious life from the 16th century unto the present day, beautifully restored after the 1967 war.

The tour then makes a stop at the Davidson Center and the southern Western Wall excavations before heading to the Wall itself, including (time permitting) a look at the Bar Mitzvah ceremonies constantly taking place in the Wall's shadow.

Leaving the Old City, you'll enter Meah Shearim for a unique glimpse at ultra-Orthodox life in Jerusalem.

Finally, the tour moves towards the western outskirts of the city for visits to the Mount Herzl military cementary and Yad Vashem, the Holocaust memorial museum.

Tours of holy sites require modest dress. Men should cover their head at Jewish sites and uncover it at Christian sites. Women should ensure that knees and shoulders are covered. No shorts are allowed for either gender.
