About

The monumental stone edifices looming at the far end of King George Street in downtown Jerusalem contain several sites of interest: the Great Synagogue and its Ten Commandments-themed architecture; the central offices of the Chief Rabbinate; and the Wolfson Museum. Much like the Judaica section of the Israel Museum, the Wolfson Museum packs in a massive collection of antique and rare Jewish ritual artifacts from the last two millennia years of Jewish history.

The museum's permanent and temporary exhibitions on Jewish identity and Jewish culture include topics such as Judaica and heritage, Jewish identity and symbols, the cultural history and the importance of the artifact in Israeli culture. The museum's collection includes objects ranging from the time of the Second Temple to the present, from communities located the globe over. In addition to the museum, a visit to Hechal Shlomo may include the Renanim Synagogue, with its 18th century Italian ark and its stained glass windows, a temporary exhibition gallery of contemporary Israeli art and a panoramic view of Jerusalem and surrounding hills from the roof.
