Yom Ha'atzmaut (Independence Day) 2013 Events at Jerusalem's Museums and Cultural Institutions

 

Jerusalem's museums cultural institutions will open their doors to the public on Yom Ha'atzmaut (Independence Day) with a wide variety of events and activities for the whole family.

 

Independence Day events – Tuesday May 6, 2014 from 9:00 in the morning

 


 

Bloomfield Science Museum: “Building Site” – activities for the whole family including an exhibit, scientific demonstrations and workshops for young kids. 10 NIS entrance. In the auditorium: Dr. Molecule’s performance for just 5 NIS.

The museum will be open from 10:00-18:00.

 


 

Begin Museum: experiential sound and light journey for the whole family about the story of Menachem Begin’s life, the 6th Prime Minister of Israel. Also, 21 guided tours will take place. From 9:00-19:00. Advance reservations required. Free entrance.

 



Tower of David Museum: 

New Exhibit: “Jerusalem: A Medical Diagnosis” – from 10:00-17:00, and the permanent exhibits. Free entrance.

 


 

Incubator Theater at Beit Mazia: Animal Parables – a performance in riddles based on three parables of King Solomon. At 13:30, entrance: 10 NIS 

 


 

Kolben Dance at the Gerard Bechar Center:

“Charlie Mandelbaum” – a dance performance about borders on the personal and political plane. 10 NIS, 19:00.

 


Israel Museum: recreating the joy of the announcement of Independence with Israeli dancing and lots of joy. 

11:00: Hora Efrochim Jerusalem

13:00: Community dancing

16:00: Performance by the Har Hadar dance group

All dancing will take place in the Crowne Plaza.

 

Entrance to the new exhibit “Jewish Dress” for 20 NIS

 

The museum will be open from 10:00-21:00

 


 

Bible Lands Museum: Sarah’le Sharon with songs for the whole family at 11:00. Guided tours of the museum at 10:15, 11:15, and 12:15. “Book of Books” exhibit open from 10:00-15:00. Free entrance to all activities.

 


 

Botanical Gardens: A Place for Song

Song and Music picnic in the spirit of Woodstock with a spotlight on Jerusalem poets and musicians and the theme of freedom. From 12:00-16:00, free entrance.

 


 

The Yellow Submarine: Happening for the Whole Family

Music – the Submarine’s ensembles, Betty Beers Swing performance, children’s activities, barbeque food for sale, chill out corners, drinks, clothing and art for sale. From 13:00-18:00. 10 NIS entrance.

 


 

Old Yishuv Court Museum: Live Museum which brings alive the joy of weddings before the state was created. “The Race to the Huppah”: an experiential, interactive game. There will also be guided tours of the exhibits. From 10:00-15:00.

 


 

Train Theater:

New performance: “Wise in the Night”

Festive happening in the Train Theater plaza – juggling, live statue, stilt walkers, music box – free entrance

“A Pirate in the Bath” Performance (10 NIS)

Jerusalem Theater Group: Jerusalem Mix celebrates Independence Day at Beit Mazia. 66 years of Israeli songs that everyone loves to sing and hear. At 11:00, entrance 10 NIS

 


 

Psik Theater at Beit Mazia: performances for the whole family. 

The Magic Box – commedia dell’arte style performance at 10:00. 

Commedia Dell’arte – mask performance at 12:30.

Elerkino searches for the treasure – classic characters and original masks from Commedia dell’arte at 17:00. Free entrance, advance reservations required call 02-5652020.
