The affinity between poetry and belief lie at the foundation of Hebrew poetry from its biblical inception. Yehuda Amichai added a major modernist dimension to the body of Jewish traditional poetry from a complex position that blends the essence of deep connection, continuity, rebellion, disappointment, and correction. This evening deals with several of the Amichai's greatest poems, their sources, their deep structure and their fascinating function in Israeli culture.
