A mishmash of Hebrew words that indicates loads of cultural offerings at little or no cost taking place on four weekends in Jerusalem, "Hamshushalaim" kicks off its eighth season in November-December 2012: November 29- December 1, December 6-8, 13-15, 20-22, 2012


This years events offer something for everyone, including hundreds of events at cultural venues and tourist destinations all over Jerusalem, dozens of outdoor and indoor shows, performances, street theatre, attractions, and special deals at restaurants and hotels.


Hamshushalaim 2012 at the Bloomfield Science Museum


The Bloomfield Museum of Science will offer extended opening hours, free admission, and host a variety of exciting evening activities for adults and families on Thursday nights throughout Hamshushalayim 2012 on the following dates: November 29, December 6, 13, and 20. Special opening hours: from 21:00 and throughout the night into the early morning hours.


The program includes:


M^^BI^ AT&ING: An artistic display by the Tauring daughters on the effects of technology on our lives. The project is comprised of virtual images, animations, prophetic texts about the future of man on the web and music which is composed in real time by a computer. During the course of the polot the audience will decide between total submission to technology or shaking away all connection to it. The performance will take place at 22:30 in the auditorium and is intended for adults.

Chess contest: Thursday, November 29, 2012 from 21:30-00:30. In cooperation with the Jerusalem Chess Club. Chess contest open to all chess lovers. 13 rounds of 3 minute games with 2 second added time for each move. Register by emailing jeruchess@gmail.com or send a text message to 052-268-8666. Space is limited; admission on a first come-first served basis until 10 minutes before the contest. The winner will win a family membership to the Bloomfield Museum of Science.


Hocus Pocus Mathematics Demonstration: what the connection between magic, magicians, and mathamatics? How do magicians know how to figure out our age or which secret number we chose? Come experience, try for yourself, and be a magician using the wonders of mathematics.


Conversation with TWISTY: a conversation with the virtual personality that will make you think twice about your original opinion on issues regarding women and science.


Mathematics Tour: The Bloomfield Science Museum invites adults to tour the "Ba Becheshbon" exhibit which features fascinating, didactic displays. On the tour, you'll hear in what we are actually square creatures, grapple with curious riddles, and discover a concept based on an ancient Persian fable. The tour focuses on the cultural-historical aspect of mathematics alongside the scientific side.


Other Lives: A new exhibit - The Bloomfield Science Museum presents "Other Lives": a new exhibit marking 100 years since the death of Alan Tauring, inspired by his life and works.


Curator: Ma'ayan Shalaf.


The works in the exhibit, many of which were created specially for this purpose, create layers of fasinating and entertaining connections to topics central to the thought and research of Alan Tauring, at the head of which stands the topic of artificial intellegence and the man-computer relationship. The participating artists from Israel and around the world used new media in creating their artwork, including network art, biological art, video, photography, displays and installations.


Participating artists: The Tauring Girls, Yonatan Ben Simchon, Nurit Bar Shai, Noa Geniger, Eran Hadas, Moushon Zer-Aviv, Tzila Hassin, Gai Yitzhaki, Yoreg Lani, Oz Malul, Miri Segal, Adam Kaplan, Alexi Shulgin, Asaf Shacham.

The exhibit will be on display from November 29, 2012 until April 5, 2013.
