A mishmash of Hebrew words that indicates loads of cultural offerings at little or no cost taking place on four weekends in Jerusalem, "Hamshushalaim" kicks off its seventh season in December 2011: December 1-3, 8-10, 15-17, and 22-24, 2011.


This years events offer something for everyone, including hundreds of events at cultural venues and tourist destinations all over Jerusalem, dozens of outdoor and indoor shows, performances, street theatre, attractions, and special deals at restaurants and hotels.


Free admission and extended hours at museums and cultural venues: On Thursday of each Hamshushalaim weekend, museums around the city will be open from 21:00 and into the late hours of the night at no charge to visitors. Participating museums and venues include The Israel Museum, The Museum of Islamic Art, The Menachem Begin Heritage Center, The Bloomfield Science Museum, The Bible Lands Museum, The Old Yishuv Court Museum, Museum on the Seam, Museum of the Underground Prisoners, The Davidson Center, Heichal Shlomo, the Herzl Museum, Design Week exhibition at Beit Hansen, Hadassah College, the Jaffa 23 and Agrippas 12.


Live music:
There will be live musical performances at little or no cost at various locations around the city, including Avraham Fried hosting Rami Kleinstein at Binyanei Hauma, marking 110 years for Sha'arei Tzedek Hospital, a concert at Ir David, a great lineup of some of Israel's most popular musicians at Zapa, including Asaf Avidan, Keren Peles, Revenge of the Tractor, Mosh Ben Ari, Rami Fortis, Dani Sanderson, and more, Italian music at the Italian Jewish Museum, Arab music at the Museum for Islamic Art, a Chanson concert at the Begin Center, and much more.


Theatre and Dance performances: Various venues around the city will offer admission to theatre and dance performances at little or no cost: Hanun Shel Rosh Hair at the Khan Theater, Psik Theater's "Edel's Days," Kabalat Shabbat with the Theatre Company Jerusalem at Beit Mezia, the Machol Shalem dance festival at Gerard Bechar, Kolben Dance at the Jerusalem Theatre, and more.


Tours: experiential tours will take place for little or no charge during both day and night: theatrical tours, Segway tours, night tours, and musical tours in the Old City, a night tour in Musrara, "Jerusalem Mix": a performance and tour in Nachlaot, "Love Stories" on Hanevi'im Street, themed tours, rooftop tours, and many more.


Culinary Specials: dozens of restaurants will offer visitors discounts and specials deals. Restaurant chefs will prepare special Jerusalem recipes such as Jerusalem winter soups and offer them at a flat price of 25 NIS. "Hamshushalayim Culinary" menu will offer a variety of tasty meals for 78 NIS and 118 NIS.


A traditional English tea ceremony will take place every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 16:00 at the YMCA restaurant.


Unique culinary themed tours will take place around the city: "Going to the Shuk" in the Old City, The Jerusalem Kitchen: encounters with Jerusalem chefs at The Tower of David, food and art tour at the Israel Museum, and more.


Family events: The weekend of December 22-24 will be dedicated to family events, including creative activities for kids at the city's museums, theatrical tours, Train Theater's street theater, children's performances, story theater, Kumkum theater's magic and light shows, Jerusalem Chanukiot tours, creative workshops, the Time Elevator, and more.


Special events: Jerusalem Design Week, The Bezalel Arts Fair, the weekly Arts Fair and Flea Market in the German Colony will all take place over the course of Hamshushalaim.

My Jerusalem: Hotel guests will be treated to guided tours by cultural, sports and communications celebrities as well as well known authors, actors, directors, and politicians, highlighting their Jerusalem stories.
