The Bloomfield Science Museum presents Researchers Night: an annual affair featuring encounters with researchers and artists and guided tours dealing with central questions of science and society. Researchers Night will take place on September 20, 2010 from 16:00 until midnight and will combine a number of activities that will take place at the Science Museum, at Café Tmol Shilshom, and at the Jerusalem Cinematheque. The theme of this year's Researchers Night is water and the environment, focusing on some of the of the Museum's leading exhibitions: The Deep and the four water themed exhibits. Admission to all events is free!


Schedule and locations of events:


Bloomfield Science Museum:

Between 16:00 and 19:00 there will be workshops and tours for familes in the exhibits "The Deep" -dozens of aquariums and hundreds of photographs and video clips of fish, star fish, worms and rare creatures, life in the deep sea in total darkness, high pressure and extreme cold, and "The Water Route": the four water themed exhibits dealing with water sources, production, supply, and quality.


From 19:00-24:00 there will be a variety of events for older children and adults including expert tours in the exhibits "The Deep" and "The Water Route," a round table discussion and a Take Five event.


At 19:30 there will be a tour of the Deep with Dr. Vanda Reich from the Center for Environmental Studies at Hebrew University and a tour in "The Water Route" with Karni Kreiger from the Mekorot Water Production Company.


At 20:00 there will be a round table discussion on the subject of the environmental effects and social effects of water recycling, moderated by Gilad Adin and with the participation of Shimon Tal from GES water treatment company, Dr. Zohar Yirmiyahu, the central engineer of the Gush Dan Water Purification Center, Tomer Kreizer and Sarit Caspi Oron from the Human Rights Law and Nature Organization.


At 21:30 there will be a "High Five" event, at which five researchers and five artists will show, in five minutes, their relationships to water and the environment at a rhythmic event. With Avital Geva, Yehudit Schreiber, Sabina Masag, Tom Bookstein, and curator Shai Zackai, and the scientists Dr. Dani Kortzman, Dr. Einat Magal, Nadav Peleg, Omri Oz, and Eldan Ankuri.


At 23:00 there will be more guided tours of The Deep.


Events outside the museum:


At 19:00 Tmol Shilshom will host a "Coffee and Science" encounter dealing with the question "what do we drink?". Orli Avraham, director of water quality control at "Mekorot" will talk with café guests about the quality of our drinking water and the difference between tap water and bottled water.


At 20:00 "Science from the Movies" will take place at the Jerusalem Cinematheque. The film "Everything About Water" (Austria/Luxemburg 2007) will be screened and there will be a meeting with Dr. Simon Emmanuel, scientists and hydrologist at the Center for Earth Sciences at Hebrew University. Space for this event is limited.
