The Mount Zion Hotel boasts a total of 137 rooms, every one a work of art, graced by traditional Middle Eastern decoration, including
hanging rugs, colorful textiles and intricate hand-made tiles. Between the architectural arabesques and the stunning views of Jerusalem historical sites, you'll feel as if you were taking part in a film.
The rooms are divided as follows:
79 Superior Rooms
Superior rooms look down either on the hotel's verdant courtyard or the ancient and infamous Valley of Hinnom. Part of the hotel's most recent wing, the rooms are furnished with twin beds and can be combined with adjoining similar rooms into a suite should the guest desire.
38 Deluxe and Family Rooms
Larger than the Superior rooms, these comfortable rooms are furnished with either twin beds or a double bed, and are arranged with families in mind. Up to two additional beds can be added to the room should guests require them. Located in the newer wings of the hotel, these rooms face Mount Zion and the Valley of Hinnom.
18 Executive and Deluxe Suites
Executive suites feature a queen-size bed and a spacious, comfortable living room with windows facing the Old City and the Valley of Hinnom. The luxurious, airy suites can comfortably accommodate four people. Each room includes two separate bathrooms for greater convenience when staying with multiple guests.
Deluxe suites, for the romantically inclined, feature a single queen bed, a single bathroom, an elaborately furnished living area, and views toward the Old City and Valley of Hinnom. No two are alike in decoration.
The Royal Suite
A hotel room as work of art. The Royal Suite, distinguished by its expanse of authentic hand-painted ceramic floor tiles, features a spacious living area, an expansive master bedroom with a king-size bed and its own bathroom, two other bedrooms with queen-size beds, two bathrooms, a full kitchen, and an enormous living/dining area. The Royal Suite's private garden terrace is a study in lush greenery, augmented by sweeping views of the Old City and Mount Zion.
The Villa
Once upon a time, the Villa was known as "the Doctor's house," home to a physician at the long-defunct St. John's eye hospital. Rising out of the gardens beside the main hotel building, the Villa features a large master bedroom with a king-size bed, en suite bathroom and living area, and two other bedrooms with twin beds and a large bathroom. The traditional décor includes marble floors, hand-painted furniture, and colorful fabrics. The arched windows afford views of the Old City, Mount Zion and the Valley of Hinnom.
Handicapped-accessible rooms are available, and all rooms come equipped with air conditioning, personal safes, cable television, wireless Internet access, mini refrigerators, telephones, hair dryers and tea- and coffee-making facilities.
Mount Zion Hotel
Perched above the Old City, the Mount Zion Hotel offers world-class lodging with exquisite Middle Eastern design, further distinguished by unforgettable views of some of Jerusalem's best-known landmarks.
Mount Zion Hotel takes its name not from its location, but from the view it offers from its rooms: the peak of Mount Zion, the walls of the Old City and the deep Valley of Hinnom. The historic building was originally erected in 1882 during the waning days of Ottoman Jerusalem, serving as the Hospital of St. John until 1948.
During Israel's War of Independence, the population of the Old City's Jewish Quarter, under siege by the Jordanian Army, used a secret cable car (which can still be visited today) to ferry food and supplies from a room inside the hotel to the beleaguered fighters and residents inside the Old City walls.
Today, nothing quite so dramatic goes on at the hotel, but it still boasts one of the most advantageous locations in the city. With a location on historic Derech Hebron, the hotel is within easy walking distance of Liberty Bell Park, the Old Train Station, the Ma'abada Theater, the Begin Center, Cinematheque art movie house and a small strip of quality restaurants.
The interior, decorated with artful Middle Eastern flourishes, is a sight to behold, and the expansive gardens occupying the slops beneath the hotel frequently serve as a venue for weddings, made all the more poignant by the impressive views of the Old City, Yemin Moshe and the titular Mount Zion.
