Over 20 writers worldwide have confirmed their participation at the second International Writers Festival, to be held from May 2-6, 2010 at Mishkenot She'ananim in Jerusalem. The first festival took place in May 2008.

 

Festival highlights include:
• Joint sessions with Israeli and guest international writers
• A series of "alternative sessions" -- reading with musicians, writers and international guests
• "Children's world", with story hour, theatre for children, computer stations to create books and more.
• Movie screening and sessions with scriptwriter/authors at the Jerusalem Cinemateque

The main festival program will be held at Mishkenot Sha'ananim, but events will take place in various locations in Jerusalem, including the Jerusalem Cinematheque, Anna Ticho House, the Museum On the Seam, The Yellow Submarine, The Lab, and others.

Among the festival's prestigious guest authors are: Paul Auster; Daniel Mendelsohn (The Lost: A Search for Six of Six Million); Michael Rips (The Face of a Naked Lady); Jamaica Kincaid (Mr. Potter, Annie John); Simon Sebag Montefiore (Stalin: The Court of the Red Tsar ); Daniel Kehlmann (Measuring the World) and others.

 

The events will focus on Hebrew literature and foreign literature that has been translated into Hebrew. All guests of the festival have been translated to Hebrew.

Joint sessions will be held between foreign and local writers, literary scholars and readers.


In addition, performances for the whole family will be staged, and movie versions of books will be screened, in the presence of the authors (Strawberries and Chocolate, 21 Gram, Smoke, and more)

The Steimatsky chain of bookstores will sponsor a reading area and café on the rooftop of Mishkenot, as well as a designated area for children with activities, story hour, computer stands to create digital books, theatre and more. In addition, there will be special activities for university students, children and youth.
