Luigi
Luigi
A stalwart of Jerusalem's no-nonsense tourist restaurant row on the Yoel Salomon pedestrian street downtown, Luigi makes sure nobody mistakes its cuisine judging by name alone.
The restaurant tries to conjure up the image of a cozy Italian bistro presided over by, I imagine, a portly man covered in flour named Luigi, and to its credit, it doesn't do too bad of a job. It's not designed for intimate dining – the tables are either banquet-sized or, if small, right next to a banquet-sized table. This is not the place to take a date you want to impress, but if you have a large party who don't feel particularly adventuresome, Luigi will suffice.
The kitchen turns out tasty Italian-style kosher pizzas, hearty soups, multiple varieties of pasta (the pesto-stuffed ravioli isn't bad) and as large a selection of antipasti as the laws of kashrut will allow. Just don't expect a fully Israeli experience – your fellow diners will almost definitely include tourist families and crowds of English-speaking yeshiva students who felt like taking a step up from Burger's Bar.
