No trip to Israel, however short, is complete without a visit to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth, a body of water so incredibly salty (seven times saltier than ocean water) that swimmers float along the surface.
You'll descend from Tel Aviv or Jerusalem down into the stunning desolation of the Judean Desert and drive along the scenic coast of the Dead Sea, flanked by the looming mountains of Moab on the Jordanian side, until you arrive at the Dead Sea Mineral Beach for a day of unique fun and relaxation.
You can visit the hot springs, where you'll slather yourself in mineral-rich, invigorating Dead Sea mud (the same stuff sold in expensive beauty products worldwide), and then take part in the photo-ready on-your-back float through the water of the Dead Sea while holding a newspaper. It's tradition.
The sun and heat are intense; be sure to bring a head covering, sunblock, water, swimsuit, towel and beach sandals.
