Karma

Karma

A landmark restaurant in picturesque Ein Kerem, Karma will have you eating like a Buddhist monk fallen off the wagon. Open for business since the late 1990s, the large, upscale eatery has been designed with a spare yet warm aesthetic using elements of wood and stone, and is situated in a palatial two-floor stone structure with space for up to 200 revelers. Known for its high level of genre-defying culinary quality, with a traditional Middle Eastern taboon stone oven at its spiritual center, Karma is often packed on weekends, so it can be a good idea to call ahead and make reservations.

Karma's ground level offers a covered veranda, while the upper level, which can also be hired for private affairs of up to 60 guests, offers views of the surrounding pastoral village and the Judean Hills. The entire restaurant has wireless internet access, and ample parking can be found nearby.

The kitchen serves up a huge array of dishes ranging from hot and cold salads, seafood, kiddie meals, pizzas and casseroles. Highlights include the 300-gram entrecote steak, portobello risotto with parmesan cheese, the fried cheese sandwich, teriyaki grilled spring chicken, four-mushroom or salmon fettuccine, and the signature chicken schnitzel plate. Specialty dishes from the chef run the gamut from the taboon-baked breakfast, a flatbread covered with vegetables and eggs; the crispy calamari starter with creamed peppers and chipotle aioli sauce; and a Druze-inspired appetizer platter, a thin pita overstuffed with lamb cuts, pine nuts, red sauce, tahini and roasted eggplant. In addition, a comprehensive menu of drinks includes fresh fruit shakes, cocktails, three beers on tap and 17 types of whiskey.
